Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-D Communication Adapter

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-D is a DeviceNet communication adapter. This adapter enables DeviceNet connectivity that is compatible with a wide range of adjustable frequency AC drives and devices. Specifically, it is compatible for use with PowerFlex class 700 drives such as PowerFlex 70, PowerFlex 700, PowerFlex 700H, PowerFlex 700S, PowerFlex 700L, PowerFlex 750 as well as PowerFlex Digital AC Drives, DPI external communication kits, SMC Flex and SMC-50 smart motor controllers.

This drive mounts to the available adapter slot and must be installed only without power. It is a electrostatic sensitive device thus, installation must be carried out properly by implementing electrostatic safety precautions. Primarily, avoid touching the electronic circuitry, wear electrostatic wirstbands, properly ground the workstation and working surfaces.

This communication adapter has Three (3) LED status indicators , 20-pin DSI connector, 5-pin DeviceNet connector, Node address selector and data rate switch. Supported DeviceNet data rates bu this adapter includes 125K, 250K, 500K as well as Autobaud selection. It support up to 30 TCP connections which may be composed of 16 simultaneous CIP messaging connections including 1 exclusive-owner I/O connection with a request Packet Interval (RPI) rating of 5 ms and Packet rate of Up to 400 total I/O packets per second (200 in and 200 out).

The 20-COMM-D has an electrical consumption of 150 mA at 5V DC supplied by the host (drive or DPI External Comms Kit) while the network consumption is 60 mA at 24V DC supplied by the network. It has an operating temperature range of 10…50 °C (14…122 °F) and storage temperature of -40…85 °C (-40…185 °F) with relative humidity of 5…95% non-condensing.

The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-D DeviceNet communication adapter can be installed either on 1 of the racks from the drive or in an external DPI communications kit. It features status indicators that indicate the current status of the DPI, the adapter, and the network connection. This adapter must be stored in dry environments that are within the -10 to 50 degrees Celsius ambient temperature range and that do not have a humidity range that falls outside a range of 5 to 95%, non-condensing. The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-D is a DeviceNet communication adapter has multiple data exchange methods such as polled, cyclic, and change of state data exchange, and it also has a master-slave and peer-to-peer hierarchy that can be employed to transmit data from a scanner or another PowerFlex drive on the same network. In order to have a successful installation process, it is recommended to install it in a static-free environment and to ground the whole drive, and the card and parts. This must be done to guarantee the life of the card and a proper performance.
