Allen Bradley 2098-DSD-020-SE Servo Drive

Allen-Bradley’s 2098-DSD-020-SE Digital Servo Drive belongs to the Ultra3000 series of servo drives. It is used for high-performance motion control applications. Used in different architectures, it is one of the most widely-used third-party control systems. It uses the SERCOS interface which is a part of the Kinetix integrated motion solution. Using a fiber-optic ring, the 2098-DSD-020-SE interfaces command from the memory to the connected peripherals. The ambient temperature rating is between 0-55 oC, and the small size of the whole module makes transportation easy.

This Ultra3000 servo drive houses a servo motor, a feedback cable, and a crake module/shunt module as an optional component that can be used as required. Working on 230V AC as input, it generates an output with a range of 115-230V AC (1-phase), at 47-63 Hz. The 2098-DSD-020-SE Ultra 3000 also has 10 Amperes (0-peak) Continuous Output Current and 30 Amperes (0-peak) Intermittent Output Current.Supporting speeds of up to 8MBps, it uses DeviceNet as its communication medium using the dedicated slots such as the RS-232 and the RS-485. The 3 ports (CN1, CN2, and CN3) are used as connecting terminals for different uses. The 2098-DSD-020-SE acts as an aid to the Ultra3000 series to simplify the drive indexing and SERCOS interfacing between 1 or more devices.

Before configuring the 2098-DSD-020-SE, make sure that there are proper terminal connections for the transmitting and receiving ends of the device. The 7-segment panel shows the exact status of the activities taking place throughout. For example, a flashing green and red indicator mean that the drive is establishing communication.
