what is Servo Motor Wiring and Precautions

May 31, 2024

A servo motor is an electric motor used for precise control of speed, position, and torque. They are commonly used in automation control systems such as CNC machine tools, robots, and automated production lines. The wiring principles and precautions for servo motors are as follows:

1.Wiring Principles

⑴Power Wiring: Servo motors typically have three wiring terminals, labeled U, V, and W, corresponding to the phases of three-phase AC power. In addition, there is a ground point (GND). When wiring, connect the U, V, and W terminals of the servo motor to the U, V, and W phase lines of the power supply, respectively, and connect the GND terminal to the neutral or ground line of the power supply.

⑵Control Wiring: The control wiring of servo motors includes pulse signal input (Pulse+, Pulse-), direction control (DIR+, DIR-), and enable control (EN+, EN-), etc. When wiring, connect these control terminals to the corresponding output terminals of the control system (such as PLC, servo drive, etc.).

⑶Feedback Wiring: Servo motors typically have encoders or other feedback devices for detecting parameters such as motor position and speed. Feedback wiring typically includes encoder signal input (AB+, AB-, Z), and ground point (GND), etc. Connect these terminals to the corresponding input terminals of the control system or servo drive.

2.Precautions:

⑴Wiring Sequence: When wiring, be sure to follow the wiring diagram and instructions to avoid wiring errors.

⑵Wire Selection: The power and control lines of servo motors should use appropriate wire diameters to ensure stable and reliable transmission. Typically, the wire diameter should be selected based on the current and cable length.

⑶Insulation Protection: During wiring, pay attention to the insulation protection of cables to avoid short circuits or electric shocks.

⑷Anti-interference: To ensure the stable operation of servo motors, measures should be taken to prevent electromagnetic interference, such as using shielded cables and grounding.

⑸Wiring Inspection: After wiring is completed, conduct a wiring inspection to ensure there are no wiring errors or omissions.

⑹Secure Wiring: Ensure all wiring terminals are securely connected to avoid loosening or poor contact.

⑺Parameter Settings: After the servo motor is installed, perform parameter settings for the servo drive according to actual application requirements, such as setting motor parameters, control modes, pulse resolution, etc.

Through the above explanation, it is believed that everyone has a deeper understanding of the wiring principles and precautions of servo motors. In practical applications, following the correct wiring methods and precautions helps to ensure the stable operation and extend the service life of servo motors.
