The 1791DS-IB16  is a CompactBlock Guard I/O DeviceNet Allen-Bradley Safety Module featuring 16 single-channel inputs. The Allen-Bradley 1791DS-IB16 CompactBlock DeviceNet Module has operation voltage that ranges from 19.2 to 28.8 Volts DC with a nominal voltage of 24 Volts DC. It also features a DeviceNet power voltage between 11 and 25 Volts DC. The I/O DeviceNet safety module consists of up to 16 current sinking safety inputs plus another 16 current sourcing pulse test outputs with protection against short-circuiting. The 1791DS-IB16 has an input current of about 1.3 mA while in the off-state, and it also goes to as low as 3.3 mA while in the on-state.

On the other hand, the 1791DS-IB16’s input voltage tends to go up to 5 Volts DC while in the off-state and sometimes falls to a low voltage of around 11 Volts DC while in the on-state. The output is associated with a current of 0.7 Amps, a maximum output leakage current of 0.1 mA, and a maximum residual voltage of 1.2 Volts. When using the 1791DS-IB16 module output as a muted lamp output, the current runs from 5 to 25 mA. Some of the features of this CompactBlock Guard I/O DeviceNet Safety Input Module include 12 or 16 Safe Inputs depending on the model. It is suitable for tracking many safety devices from a single location. It has four configurable standard outputs which are configured for the pulse test source, the 24 Volts DC source, and the standard output. The configuration of this module can be locked and password-protected for extra security. It supports both single-channel as well as dual-channel devices on the outputs and inputs.
